Have you heard about the Astronaut’s diet? This diet is pretty simple to follow and unlike many others, it works great. It will help you lose weight in a healthy way while preventing the so-called yo-yo effect most diets cause.
How Does It Work?
The diet isn’t named because astronauts use it – it’s called like that because you need t have an astronaut restraint because of the foods you need to give up. The diet is quite limited in terms of food choices and consists of consuming protein for the most parts. Sugar and carbs are strictly limited as is your calorie intake. Due to the high protein intake, you’ll be able to lose weight without harming your muscles.
The astronaut diet forbids the consumption of salt, sugar, alcohol, soda, fruit juices, pasta, rice, smoked meat, pizza, cereals and bread as well as starchy vegetables such as potatoes. Instead of these foods, you can add tomatoes, cucumbers, tofu, cheese, chicken, fish, eggs, mushrooms, cabbage, lettuce, vegan milk, salad, pumpkin, green beans, cauliflower and broccoli.
Here’s a simple menu you can follow:
Breakfast: scrambled or boiled eggs with a cup of tea or coffee with no sugar
Lunch: a bowl of chicken soup and a piece of grilled chicken with mushroom and tomatoes salad and a cup of black coffee
Snack: a cup of green tea and a glass of orange juice
Dinner: 150 gr. of tofu, fish and almond milk
Instead of tofu, you can eat cottage cheese. If you’re not fond of orange juice, you can replace it with apple juice.
Besides the daily meal plan, you should also make sure to walk more than before and drink at least 2 l. of water or more. If you’re suffering from digestive problems, the astronaut diet can help settle them down. The most important part of the diet is to eliminate carbs from your diet as when your gut is out of balance, the sugar and carbs you consume can ferment and cause even bigger problems.
A high-protein diet on the other hand, can relieve most digestive problems including IBS. Just make sure to stay hydrated, add some probiotics and prunes in your diet, quit smoking, avoid fried and spicy foods, cook with olive oil, sleep well and drink a cup of mint or ginger tea whenever you experience stomach discomfort.
