No matter how small they are, spiders crawling close to you can really freak people out. Many people don’t love spiders, but we’re all connected to these tiny and creepy creatures since they’re everywhere! Now, a famous entomologist claims that these insects can actually save our homes in ways that we couldn’t even imagine!
The entomologist is called Matt Bertone. He studies insects and along with his team, they performed a research in more than 50 homes in North Carolina so that they could see the kinds of spiders who mostly reside in our homes. Each of the homes had spiders. They were cellar and cobweb spiders. Another conclusion is that we need these pesky little creatures, no matter how hard we try to eliminate them from our homes.
Why Do We Need Spiders?
They Eat Insects Which Carry Diseases
This is the best benefit. They actually eat insects which carry and spread diseases, like for example mosquitoes. According to Bertone, there is even one kind of spider called the flying spider that eats the mosquitoes filled with blood present in many African homes.
The little arachnids are actually very important predators and a part of our home.
Insects are also amazing to be used for valuable medical research. Their spider venom is considered to have a great potential to be used as a very safe painkiller. It can especially be used against muscular dystrophy and strokes. It can also be used as antivenom in case of bites from larger spiders.
Also, a less known fact is that the spider silk belongs to the group of the strongest materials ever discovered. It’s amazing how we eliminate it with only one finger, but it is actually compared to high-grade alloy steel!
They are really small creatures, but what they offer to the scientific and medical world is really fascinating.
They Prevent Pests To Destroy Crops
Spider are natural predators. They can easily prevent pests and they won’t destroy crops. They fest on these pests. Keeping our food safe is really something that we should all be thankful for!
Can They Actually Hurt Us?
Almost all kinds of spiders are considered to be venomous. Still, most of them have a very weak venom which can’t hurt us. Spider bits are also really rare. Some types of spiders are concerning, like recluses or widow spiders, but their bites are also uncommon. They are more afraid of you then you are of them, don’t forget!
How Can We Get Rid of Common House Spiders Safely?
Many reasons can be responsible for the spiders we have at home. They could appear temporarily, they’re maybe trapped or just spend their lives there. They aren’t dangerous or aggressive at all and we may not even notice that they’re there.
In case you want to get rid of a spider at home, don’t swat or scream! Just think of how beneficial it is to your home and the whole world. Try not to kill it. Capture it using a piece of paper and let it go outside.
Take a look at our video where we’re showing you how to catch and then release a spider without harming it:
No matter if you see them or you don’t, spiders are indeed present at your home. There isn’t a way to prevent them from entering. Just try to think of the goods they can offer and don’t be afraid of them.
In case you see any of them, try not to kill it and use the way we showed you to release it.
