Our body is a complex system not unlike clocks. Experts say that everything in it is in balance with each other, so the spiritual and physical health aren’t to be viewed separately – instead, they need to be viewed as a whole.
Knowing that everything in our body is connected, traditional Chinese medicine says that our organs have specific channels through which powerful energies run. Over a cycle of 24 hours, the body provides different energies to different organs, so they’re most active at a certain time overnight. Most of us go to bed at this point, when the endocrine system is most active and the enzymes in the body are refilled. The endocrine system balances our metabolism and hormones, so if you’re having trouble falling asleep at this time, you’re suffering from hormonal imbalance. This usually occurs due to a late heavy meal or poor nutrition during the day.

At this time, the body turns the yin energy to yang, which helps the body stay active during the next day. If you wake up or fail to fall asleep at this time, you may be having problems with your gallbladder or you’re consuming way too much unhealthy fats in your diet.
At this point of the night, the lungs are healing and repairing themselves, so if you’re waking up between 3 and 5 AM, you may be having respiratory problems. Breathing techniques can help, as can staying warm enough at this point of the night. From a spiritual side, you may be waking up between 3 and 5 AM due to grief or sadness. Lucid dreams, feeling cold and appetite changes may also be the reason for waking up at this time.

This organ eliminates toxins and chemicals from the body, but eating a late heavy meal might obstruct this process and cause problems.
